Beginner’s Guide to Animal Character Design
Welcome to Lesson 1 of the Beginner’s Guide to Animal Character Design! Over the next four days, you’ll learn simple techniques to draw animal characters in just a few quick steps.
In this four-part video series, I’ll be sharing how to:
- draw a hippo, a zebra, a crocodile and a flamingo character starting with simple shapes
- transition from observation to imagination
- use the six key elements to animate any animal character
- design a scene with your cast of animal characters
Today’s Task: Follow along as we construct four distinct animals—a zebra, crocodile, hippo, and flamingo.
What You Will Need:
- Paper and a pencil, with the option to use your iPad.
- I’ll be using my Staedtler Mars Clutch Pencil with a brown lead. Feel free to use a HB or 2B graphite pencil.
Happy Sketching!
