Course Overview:
Week 1: Learn the physical mechanics of a picture book and the key considerations before starting your story.
Week 2: Develop character maps that explore age, size, proportion, group dynamics, interaction, movement, and the importance of storytelling, experimenting with both animal and human possibilities.
Week 3: Dive into visual storytelling through thumbnail sketches, page breaks, and story arcs, and discover how these elements affect the pace, rhythm, and flow of your narrative.
Week 4: Create your storyboard, focusing on page layout, design, text and image placement, and adding details to your characters and settings.
Week 5: Construct a dummy book to visualise your project.
Week 6: Set up your final illustration while exploring various illustration techniques.
Week 7: Illustrate your final piece.
Week 8: Consider âWhatâs Next?â Discussing the importance of a portfolio, the support network, submitting your work, self-publishing, and financial aspects.
